Dallas District NYI Bible Quiz
Ovilla, Texas, October 13, 2007
This October in Ovilla was really a grand event for the Dallas NYI Bible Quizzing. So many good events going on and quizzers had to make decisions on which event to participate in, some went to the Forever Young Invitational in Oklahoma City. Some of the girls from our district went to the Revolve Tour at Richardson. so many good things and not enough time to do them all.I want to say it took some perseverance for everyone to get there today. There was road construction on I35 and the exit was closed. An accident on I35 had it shut down early this morning and put a lot of groups in unknown by-passes. Some went east on Ovilla Road, before they discovered they were to go west. To God be the glory, for we lost no one. Everyone made it, and was even wearing a smile on their face when they arrived.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know the results of the Quiz at Ovilla Road Church. Of the 18 quizzers in attendance, the placements were as shown below for the 17 competing. Jamie Grubert came for the afternoon Team quizzing, for she was in Band Competition this morning in Plano.
Hanna Brownlee is our 1st place quizzer for the month of October, and Tyler Miller was only 10 points behind her for 2nd place. This was the highest ranking either of them has made in our District Quizzes. The look on Hannah’s face when she learned of her placement was priceless. Disbelief, humble, and excitement and many other emotions rolled up in that one look. Way to go Hannah and Tyler.
12 Quizzers qualified for the Jump Master round. Tyler Miller on the last question, proved he was the Jump Master for October. The Team Quizzing, with so many teams only having one, two or three, we combined the teams and had a three-way Team Quiz off this afternoon.
Team 1 was made up of teams from Longview, Richardson, Ovilla Road, and Sulphur Springs. Team 2 was made up of teams from Texarkana, Peniel, and Grand Prairie, and Team 3 was made up of teams from Bread of Life Commerce, and Kilgore. In the two rounds of competition, Team 2 proved to be the top Team for October. and Team 3 came in second place.
Tyler was wearing three medals today. 2nd place Individual, Jump Master, and 1st Place Team. A very happy teen leaving today.
On a special note, please look at what a seasoned quizzer can do by looking at 10th place. No it is not a mistake, Kevin Zevely who has been one of our most competitive quizzers in the past few years placed 10th. Kevin is taking some very major courses in school this year and has stated that he does not have time to study, and had not up until today. Even though Kevin stated he may not quiz at all this year, Kevin came with the Kilgore team, and studied between rounds. Kevin was able to Quiz out in one round, qualifying him for the Jump Master competition. Wow - these young people who get into Bible Quizzing , they pick up study habits and their minds are like sponges, they soak it up in a hurry!
It was so good to have Sue Ponder and the Hispanic quizzers from Tyler join us today. These teens were checking us out. They have been in the Spanish Quizzing, and was there to see if they would like to quiz with us from the NIV. I am excited how God is moving in our district with the youth and His Word. What a combination! There are only winners in Bible Quizzing!
I spoke to my son Robby this evening, and he was a Quiz Master at the Forever Young Invitational today. He told me that our Carrollton team was unstoppable today. I do not know much of the details yet, but I will share them with you all as I get them. He could not talk long, for he was invited by the Carrollton group to go with them to celebrate Hillary Rosenjack’s birthday. What a grand way to spend a birthday Hillary - in Bile Quiz competition. May you all be Forever Young - it is in the heart and not in years.
